Sunfest at Ardantane
Monday, Jun 20 2011 04 PM
Sunfest has come and gone; it was small this year, about 15 people I think, but everyone seemed to enjoy themselves.
Program events included two bardic circles; the main Litha ritual; creating a sun dial of stones near the Sun Circle; workshops on personal goals, Brigit, crafting flower pots and birdhouses, and solar archetypes; the Sun King Contests (Della is our new king), a hike to the ruins, and a thunderstorm meditation.
The thunderstorm meditation was designed to bring the monsoon season a little early, given the drought in New Mexico. Interestingly, Azrael and I woke up about midnight on Sunday, and it was raining at Ardantane. (Not a huge rain, more like a promise.)
Many thanks to Starr, Della, Bob, Cedar, Rowan, and all who helped with the setup, program, and Solar Cafe.
For next year, I would ask all of you to consider whether it is time for a change in Sunfest. It takes a great deal of energy to do the festival, and I would like to either make changes to bring out more people, or possibly drop it, given that other Litha festivals now exist in the area.
One possible option would be to change it to a Litha Family Fun Day, where parents could bring out their younger children for a picnic, crafts, games, etc. This might be a day-long event, with optional overnight camping for a small extra fee. But there must be other possibilities as well. Feel free to send me your ideas!
Blessed be, Amber K
