Come to the "Dancing the Dome" Celebration Oct. 2

"Dancing the Dome" Ritual and Party October 2nd

You are invited! A ritual and celebration will be held to consecrate Ardantane's geodesic dome on Saturday, October 2^nd.

There is no charge for the ritual, which will begin about 5:00 pm. It will include a processional to carry the statues of many deities into the Dome, to the nichos where they will reside. Please wear costume or ritual garb, and bring a dum if you have one.

Tickets for the celebration afterward are $10. This will include a potluck feast, live and recorded music for dancing and listening, a donation beer-and-wine bar, door prizes, and all manner of exciting and fun activities. Come dressed as your favorite God or Goddess, or at least in festive clothing.

Bring friends and plan to carpool as much as you can. Parking is limited.

Ardantane at a Wonderful Pagan Pride Day

Hi Folks,

Ardantane had a presence at Pagan Pride Day in Albuquerque yesterday; thanks to Digby and Rowan and Falco for helping staff the table. We sold some books and buttons etc., and gave out information to a lot of friendly people.

Perfect weather, lots of colorful displays, good attendance--what a great event. Praises to Michelle, Renn, Merlyn, and everyone who put it together. There were Pagans from other states attending who were totally wowed by the size, organization, and publicness of the event.

Azrael led the main ritual and did a labyrinth workshop, Rowan presented an herbs workshop, I did some workshops, Digby explained Ardantane to a zillion people, all was well.

Soon Azrael and I get to go to Reno, Nevada, and show the flag at their Pagan Pride Day!

Next Blessed Beavers Work Party Sept. 4

Hi Folks!

Yesterday was a great Blessed Beavers work party, seven of us finished the frame for the new toolshed roof AND did a lot of erosion control along the road.

Next month's work party is moved up a week, to Saturday September 4. Some of us will be starting as early as 8:00 in order to make progress while it's still cool. Major project will be constructing and installing the toolshed roof, although we have a bunch of smaller projects (painting, etc.) that need attention too.

If we have enough people, we can do some more campus cleanup and beautification as well.

Giant Clam Found at Ardantane

Okay, "giant" is relative. Most clam fossils found in the Jemez
Mountains are tiny, about 1/2 inch across. This clam is the size of a
golf ball, so it's pretty big by Jemez standards.

Why is this significant? Just to remind is that Ardantane is a
wonderful place, filled with Nature's beauty and surprises. Often we
find petrified wood here, remnants of ancient forests that lined the
shallow seas of the Southwest in Triassic times. You all know how
magnificent the views are: Mesa de las Casas and Shaman's Peak to the
north, Guadalupe Mesa and its ruins to the west, Datile Mesa hiding an
elk wintering valley to the east.

We are always amazed at the beautiful cloud patterns by day and the
blazing clarity of the stars by night. And we have company: hawks and
songbirds, coyotes and rabbits, and within a few miles, elk and bobcats
and bears and mountain lions.

So maybe a clam, even a "giant" one, doesn't sound like a big deal. But
it's an ocean dweller, discovered 6,000 feet up in the High Desert.
Just another marvel here. No wonder we are "happy as clams" to be
living here.

We see all this wonder every day, but we don't want to be shellfish
about it. We'll share. Come visit.

Ardantane at Covenant of the Goddess in Indiana

Hi Folks,

Azrael and I have returned from COG Leadership Institute/Grand Council/Merrymeet, in Indianapolis; got in about midnight.

We made or renewed several connections among the leaders and elders of the Craft community, and got a jolt of ideas and energy for making Ardantane a stronger presence in cyberspace, from Jason of the Wild Hunt blog.

Also, came back with generous donations and some merchanting income for Ardantane. There are some great Ardantane supporters in Covenant of the Goddess.

The Leadership Institute, which Az and I presented for Ardantane, was really well received. We're already talking about next year's Leadership program, which will be in Dallas. And that in turn will lead to 2012, when Chamisa Local Council hosts Merrymeet etc. here in New Mexico. We intend to make Ardantane a big part of that event.

Hi Everyone,

Please note that the Beavers work party at Ardantane is changed to Saturday, August 21.

We could sure use a bunch of volunteer workers on that day--you, I hope!

We have a lot of projects in the lineup. Finishing a new roof for the toolshed. Repairing some of the erosion damage on the road, from the recent heavy rain. Continuing to clear and beautify some of the central part of the campus, where the Dining Hall will eventually be built. And certainly some work on the Dome, depending on where the entryway project stands.

Hope you can join us. There will be lunch, Beaver Bucks, and good fellowship. We'll start by 8:30 am and work until mid-to-late afternoon. Join us when you can--and thank you!

Alamogordo Pagans Rock!

Did we mention that 8 wonderful folks drove all the way from Alamogordo to help build the Ardantane campus?

They came up on July 23-25, stayed overnight in the Dome, and worked their tails off on Saturday (tails can be seen on display). They built a framework for the new toolshed roof, cleaned out Tornado Alley and dumped two truckloads of trash, painted stuff, planted flowers, cleaned out and reorganized the toolshed, and much more. What a great crew!

Of course we gave them Beaver Bucks and the special Blessed Beaver embroidered emblems, and did a special workshop for them Sunday morning. And they had some fun time hiking the land and watching movies in Hawk Haven. But they came up not for the fun part, but because they wanted to do community service, and they sure accomplished that goal.

Many thanks to you, Alamogordo! Other groups who want to do the same should contact me--we'll be very glad of the help!

FIRST HARVEST AT ARDANTANE

Merry Meet All,

Come out and enjoy the first harvest celebration with a burning of a Wicker Man at the Ardantane campus. We will be constructing our homage to the Gods, filling it with blessings and sacrifices, and sharing the energy with the God and Goddess in a grand blaze of glory, chanting and dancing. It's THIS FRIDAY, AUGUST 6.

The ritual will start promptly at 8:00 pm, a change from our usual time. But you are encouraged to come early to check out all the great things happening on the campus, take a walk on one of the many paths.

Feel free to bring any ribbons, flowers, herbs and a special offering of your own to add to our grand Wicker Man.

Also bring a yummy dish and beverage to share for the feasting afterward!

Hi, this is Amber K, Executive Director, sometimes irreverently called the "Head Beagle of Ardantane." Long story, you would have to be a Snoopy fan to get it.

The Ardantane Leadership Circle has suggested that I put more informal, daily news sorts of messages on this blog, to let you know all the little newsy things that happen here at Ardantane Pagan Learning Center. Well, that's sure more fun than just announcing classes, so I'm happy to do it.

Ten years ago, this land was pretty much wilderness--with a dirt road that led nowhere in particular, and no well, no buildings, no sign of human habitation--just glorious red rock mesas, blue skies, pinons and junipers drowsing in the sun.

A lot of Ardantane is still that way! Most of our land is wild, and that's the way we like it. BUT our volunteers and donors have added some amenities, such as: The Dome, Hawk Haven and Cattail Cottages, La Casa (staff residence), a well (good water!), FIVE ritual circles, a labyrinth, two marked trails, the Shrine of the Ancients, the Water Shrine, the Oasis, storage facilities, and more. Here for you to use and enjoy.

We've built a lot--still not finished--and we've had the sense to leave a lot alone.

Today I look at the campus and I'm concerned, because class participation has fallen way off since the recession hit, and frankly we're almost out of money to keep the campus running. Thank the Goddess we have a core of dedicated people who make monthly donations toward the mortgage payments--so far, the land itself is safe.

But that doesn't cover the electric bill, the phone bill, the satellite Internet service, the truck maintenance, etc. -- the overhead costs of Ardantane Pagan Learning Center.

It's so beautiful here; it's a serene place of learning and healing and community and celebration for many people. Somehow we'll keep the dream alive, but right now it's wanting financial help. My Social Security sure won't cover the costs. Can you pledge something, anything, monthly, so it's still here for your kids and grandchildren? Teen Retreat Changed to TEEN DAY

The Teen Retreat scheduled for this coming weekend is now a TEEN DAY AT ARDANTANE, Saturday July 17, 9:00 am to 5:00 pm.

Teens and parents can join us for a day of magickal workshops, hiking, discussions, and activities. Both teens and parents are welcome to submit ideas for activities, and the final selection will be made when we gather at 9:00 am. Some POSSIBLE activities:

ü Classes or workshops on Pagan and magickal topics: Wicca, Druidry, Asatru, Goddess Spirituality, Pagan ethics, magick for health and protection, symbols and sigils, ritual tools, creating your own altar, Tarot and other forms of divination, animal magick, etc.

ü Rituals for any positive, ethical purpose; perhaps a Waxing Moon esbat.

ü A hike, either on the Canyon Trail with instruction in desert hiking and survival, OR on the Seeker's Path, with an activity at each of the seven altars along the trail.

ü Crafts such as mask-making, wand-making, making your own Tarot cards, etc.

ü Discussions on topics of concern to teens: life planning, Being Pagan in a Muggle World, developing your unique personality and style, etc.

ü Bardic circles: sharing songs, stories, chants, and more around the fire.

Lunch, and refreshments are provided. The cost is $50 for the first teen, $30 for each additional teen from the same family, and FREE to parents who accompany their teens. Payment may be made at the event. Unaccompanied teens MUST have a signed parental permission form (e-mail AmberK1@aol.com for the form). Folks are welcome to arrive the night before (Friday) or stay over the night after (Saturday), at no additional charge.

We are changing the Blessed Beavers work party at Ardantane from the 10th to a new date, SATURDAY JULY 24.

If you were planning to come up this Saturday, sorry for the inconvenience. But we really could use your help on the 24th.

We have a crew coming up from Alamogordo that day and will be tackling some big projects--as well as the essential little ones (painting, cleaning the campus, etc.).

If you haven't been to Ardantane for a while, do come up and see the progress! We have a new roof on La Casa, the new "Canyon Trail" marked, the Water Shrine all pretty, and more! Plus the cool, shady Dome to have lunch in.

Lunch will be provided, as usual. We have work gloves here, but be sure to bring a sun hat. We'll start about 8:00 am while it's still cool, and wrap up by 4:00.

We will be exploring how to live our lives with kindness and diversity. Various mentors will be conducting workshops on topics like drum making, outdoor survival, and magick (actual program will be created with teen input). Enjoy a weekend in the wonderful Jemez Mountains on the campus of Ardantane Pagan Learning Center.

This retreat is a 'don't miss!' for any teen interested in experiencing Paganism and mindfulness practices, truthful/heartfelt communication, wonderful mentors, safe community, great food, and a time to relax and meet new friends!

We will also be building something on the land that will be there for years to come.

Accommodations: This will be a camping retreat. So please bring camping gear, tents, sleeping bags, etc. Be prepared for weather in the Jemez in July, hot in the daytime and mild at night. Sunscreen is a must!

Celebrate Beltane Friday at Ardantane

Spring is springing--let's celebrate!

This coming Friday evening, April 30, there will be a Beltane celebration at Ardantane. Please plan to arrive about 6:00 pm, and the ritual will start at 6:30.

There will be music and dance and more.

Afterward we'll share a potluck feast--please bring a dish or beverage to share!
